Sunny Deol Recalls Dharmendra’s ‘Pakistan Meri Mausi Hai’ Remark, Avoids Political Debate

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol chose to stay away from political discussions while promoting his upcoming film Batwara 1947 in Patna. During the press interaction, he was asked about Pakistan, but instead of giving a political opinion, the actor reflected on the shared history of India and Pakistan before Partition.

Responding to the question, Sunny Deol first clarified that the film was shot entirely in India. He then recalled a memorable statement made by his father, veteran actor Dharmendra, saying:

“India is my mother, and Pakistan is my maternal aunt.”

Sunny explained that before the Partition, both countries were part of one nation, and people on both sides continue to share historical and emotional connections. He emphasized that he prefers not to view such matters through a political lens.

Sunny Deol made it clear that his focus remains on cinema rather than politics. According to the actor, filmmakers and actors are responsible for bringing meaningful stories to audiences, not turning every discussion into a political debate.

He added that while films may be inspired by historical events, their primary purpose is storytelling and connecting with audiences emotionally.

What Is Batwara 1947 About?

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 marks the director’s reunion with Sunny Deol after nearly three decades. The duo previously worked together on iconic films like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak.

The movie is inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed 1989 play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai. The story follows a married couple, played by Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, whose lives are transformed during the Partition of India in 1947, forcing them to migrate across the newly created border.

Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the historical drama is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
